Berlin Urban Design
Large Scale Urban Planning Scheme
Former Site of the Berlin Wall, Germany
Connection and Place Making
A few years ago we worked on a large urban design scheme in Berlin, in an area north of the Reichstag that was formerly the site of the Berlin wall.
The theme of our design was connection.
Our proposal sought to make strong new connections between people and spaces, and to deal with the need for place making on all scales.
Sensitive Design Ideas
This was one of the most sensitive urban sites in the world, so it was clear that our design had to be both subtle and creative. Our proposal was for satellite projects to be built on pieces of land nearby and linked by a sense of place. This created new vistas and made new connections where there had once been division.
We focussed on the space between buildings and called for a series of public places along the water’s edge. These would be linked with an urban park in the centre of the site, and a new green route from North to South.
UK Design Commendations
Our work was the top placed UK entry to the competition and was highly commended.
