This is one of the first projects that we did, way back in 2010. We keep it in our portfolio as our clients were just so happy with the results.
We transformed an old shop in Islington’s Colebrooke Row Conservation Area into a modern new home for our clients.
Change of Use
Our clients had bought the space and wanted to turn it in to their dream home. It had to have a warmer feel and needed lots of work.
Most important of all was that it did not yet have permission for residential use.
As the site is in a Conservation Area our clients were nervous about getting permission, but we advised them on the best route to take.
Colebrooke Row Conservation Area
The site is in a Conservation Area in the heart of Islington, just off Upper Street.
It used to be a shop, and still had the old shop front glazing and door.
We gave advice on the Planning Policy that would apply, and got permission for lawful use as a flat. Once this was in place we could apply for the design changes that our client wanted.
Interior Design Details
We knew that the interior design of such a small flat would be important. So we focussed on creating a great bedroom, study and bathroom in the basement.
We designed built in storage, an open staircase and a walk-on glass roof light above.
The ground floor of the flat is given over to the living area and kitchen.
Home Design Ideas
We planned details such as raised wall panels and ceiling coving to give the space a homely feel.
The chimney breast is clad in a warm copper tile with an inset gel fire.
